Good day all. I bought a 2012 Genesis sedan in 2015. I LOVE IT!!!!! This is the first foreign vehicle i have ever purchased and truly love the car.

I pretty much do my own maintenance on the car (I am cheap), but also don't have time to 'wait' at the dealer for them to service my G. It is time (per the maintenance guide) to change the trans fluid. The dealer wants $250 to do the job, and I see the trans fluid itself is pricey. My G is a 4 door, 3.8. I am told by the dealer that the trans is an 8 speed model, and that the capacity is 12 quarts (that's 3 gallons!). I called one dealer, they say that the trans is sealed and that it does not need changing.

I called another dealer, they say that there is no pan gasket or filter, which is why they say to only 'flush' the trans. Anyway, if anyone has changed their own trans fluid, please share your experience (comments/videos).

Total capacity is 10.14 qts, but you aren't going to get it all out doing a drain and fill, which is what we do at my dealership. There is a filter, but it's incorporated in the pan, which is $155. Note: the shop manual and owners manual are a little ambiguous for SS. The shop manual states 100K and the owners manual states 60K.

I'm not sure if my car qualifies for SS but after 100K will likely do a drain and fill only which uses about 7 qts of special HYUNDAI genuine ATF SP-IV-RR.
